In 2001, Harrop Fold School was regarded as one of the worst performing schools in the UK. Since his appointment into a senior role in 2005 and then Head teacher in 2010, Drew and the other members of ‘Team Harrop’ have been successful in raising the exam results to the best in the school’s history, an Ofsted rating from Special Measures to Good, and improving the attitudes and behaviour of students, which was key to the school’s improvement – all achieved against the backdrop of what was the country’s largest school budget deficit.
Starting his career as a classroom teacher, Drew won the prestigious ‘Teacher of the Year’ award, recognising him as an outstanding classroom practitioner with a focus on behaviour management.
Now as Executive Headteacher, Drew works on a programme of school improvement and mentoring with other Headteachers. He also advises leaders in other business sectors, elite sport, the police and the NHS.
Drew and the Harrop Fold story have recently been the subject of Channel 4’s Educating Greater Manchester series.
